In modern society, there's a noticeable boundary between the secular and the religious. But is it always easy to find this boundary? I took these photos in the northwest of Russia, mostly in Saint Petersburg. I was struck by how closely religious symbols coexist with the ordinary and the everyday. At times, it seemed as though the boundary had completely disappeared. Temples, churches, and crosses are everywhere. Yet, according to the latest statistics, only 1 percent of Russians attended church on Christmas.
